We're getting married!

As you may have heard, Kathryn Krouse and Jeffrey Gautreaux, the authors of this blog, are getting married in Asheville, North Carolina, on April 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Richmond Hill Inn. We hope this blog can help provide guests (or interested parties or bored people) with information about the wedding.

We want everyone to have a great time, but we don't want to dictate to you how you spend it -- except of course for the part where you show up for the wedding.

We will post answers to obvious questions, but people can post questions in the comments section of the blog and we will provide answers (if we can!). If you have trouble with commenting, you can send questions to Kat at katkrouse@mindspring.com or, if you have lost all hope and don't expect to get any help, you can e-mail Jeffrey at the_gautreaux@hotmail.com simply to commiserate.

Wedding Location

The wedding will be held at the Richmond Hill Inn. It is in Asheville, which is a funky historic city in western North Carolina.

The ceremony will be done outside on the property at 2 p.m. in the garden by the waterfall. The afternoon tea reception will be held following the ceremony inside the Inn.

Accommodations

People have asked whether they can stay in the Richmond Hill Inn. But apparently, it is very expensive and they don't have rooms available anyway. So, it's best to look elsewhere. Any hotel that says "Near Downtown" or "Close to Biltmore" should be good. It's best to stay away from hotels near the airport because they are on the wrong side of the city.

Asheville has many bed and breakfasts, which many people enjoy. This link has only some of the scores in the area.

All of the regular chain hotels are in Asheville. Swankier options are at Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa and the Inn on Biltmore Estate.

A block of rooms have been reserved at the Crowne Plaza Resort Asheville. To get a discounted rate, e-mail Kat and she will send you a letter that entitles you to a discount.

Flying

Those flying in for the wedding can use the Charlotte Airport or the Asheville Airport. Charlotte is two hours from Asheville by car. Flying into Charlotte will probably be cheaper, but Asheville obviously will be quicker. This blog could be used to get in touch with people for carpooling from the airport. Or not. It's up to you.

No bus will be chartered. Although Shirley has extensive bus-driving experience and could possibly be convinced to take the wheel of a yellow bird.

What to do

Go to the wedding!

But outside of that time, here are some things that might be fun: the Biltmore Estate, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, visit Kat's university, kayaking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, hiking, sleeping (for Terry), shopping and exploring the historic downtown, which has art galleries, unique shops, cafes, restaurants and lots of other things to do. Here's a good link.

Also, you can point at hippies, admire architecture, see people enjoying alternative lifestyles or sit slackjaw in wonder that you are in the congressional district of a failed former NFL quarterback!

Registries

We've registered for fancy dishes that Kat really likes. That is available here.

We have no other registries. We welcome gifts of all kinds or nothing but the pleasure of your attendance. We expect that we might receive a counted cross-stitch. I guess we'll see.

P.S. Kat really does like those dishes.

What to wear

Clothing!

Actually, we have been asked this question repeatedly (but only by one person), so we'll tell you what we're wearing. Kat is wearing a cream wedding dress. Jeffrey is wearing a charcoal gray suit with blue accents in the tie.

You can wear whatever you would feel good in. There is the possibility that it could be chilly, so take that into consideration. Of course, it could be warmish, too, so caveat emptor.

If you don't want to wear a suit or a dress or shoes, don't feel like you have to. Just wear something.

Colors

There aren't any official ones! Sorry.
